Premier server security
IIC Internet Services provide, free of charge, a server capable of using HTTPS/SSL.
A secure server is a must if you're accepting online payments by credit card.
Encrypted sites are much more difficult to "break in" to. Anything
you send over HTTP can easily be intercepted and read by someone that's attached
to the network running the right software. However, when using a secure server,
this is a lot more difficult. This enables you to guarantee customers superior
security when it comes to their personal information - especially credit card
details, etc. Besides encryption, secure servers also provide authentication
- the certificates used guarantee, to an extent, that the web server you are
talking to is who they say they are, and not an imposter.
What is HTTPS?
HTTPS is the secure, or encrypted, version of HTTP.
What is a Secure Server Certificate?
Also known as a digital ID, eg. Verisign, Thawte. We recommend Thawte certificates
as they are cheaper. A secure server needs to have a certificate installed in
order to identify that the site the visitor is talking to is the site being
represented. Without a proper certificate installed, the visitor will get warning
messages in their web browser whenever your secure site is accessed.
IIC will load your SSL certificate into the server for free!
Do I Need to Buy My Own Certificate?
No, you can use IIC's certificate at no extra charge.
What is SSL?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the encryption used in HTTPS.
