OC192 high speed backbone connection
We have enough capacity to run even the busiest web sites. Our OC192 backbone
is a super high speed, fiberoptic Internet connection that IIC has connected
to its servers. This means that your connection will be at almost 9.6 Gb/S,
whereas the average modem transfers at 56 Kb/S. That's a 170,000 fold difference!
To put it another way, an OC192 is equivalent to over 6,200 T1's, or over 200
T3's. That's a lot of bandwidth!
The Need for Speed: 8 Second Rule
Even though we have a super high speed connection, that doesn't mean your web
pages should weighted down with huge graphics. The bottleneck for your typical
Internet user will be his/her modem. Remember that Internet users hate to wait.
A Zona Research study found that after 8 seconds, the homepage abandonment rate
suddenly jumped from 6 to 8 percent to over 33 percent!
TIP: Make your homepage less than 40K. Use the following page weight tool from NetMechanic.com
